Seth Davis joined CBS Sports in 2003 and serves as a contributor to the network’s coverage of college basketball and the NCAA Division 1 Men’s basketball tournament. He appears on the halftime show At The Half and CBS Sports Network’s roundtable college basketball show Inside College Basketball. He also serves as a college basketball game and studio analyst for Turner Sports, FOX Sports, Big 10 Network and the CW Network.
In 2024, Davis became the Editor in Chief for Hoops HQ – a college basketball news, analysis, and content platform, offering exclusive scoops, in-depth interviews, and breaking news, covering both men’s and women’s college basketball. Prior to this, he served as a Senior Writer for The Messenger, Managing Editor for The Athletic, overseeing their national college basketball platform, and he was a veteran writer for Sports Illustrated. During his long tenure at SI, he authored the “Inside College Basketball” column and was a frequent contributor for SI.com, where his popular “Hoop Thoughts” column became a weekly staple during the college basketball season.
Davis is the author of nine books, including four New York Times bestsellers: Wooden: A Coach’s Life, which chronicles the life of longtime UCLA coach John Wooden; When March Went Mad: The Game That Transformed Basketball, which tells the story of the 1979 NCAA championship game which pitted Magic Johnson against Larry Bird; Wake Up with Purpose!: What I’ve Learned in My First Hundred Years, a narrative of the life of Loyola Chicago matriarch “Sister Jean;” and his most recent book, It’s Hard for Me to Live with Me, which shares former NBA player Rex Chapman’s story of addiction and recovery in unflinching detail.
Davis is also the author of Getting to Us: How Great Coaches Make Great Teams, which profiles elite coaches such as Mike Krzyzewski, Doc Rivers and Dabo Swinney to explain how they use the PEAK (Persistence, Empathy, Authenticity and Knowledge) profile to form winning teams.
Seth has served as president of the U.S Basketball Writers Association and in April 2023, he was inducted into the USBWA’s Hall of Fame.
Davis graduated in 1992 with a degree in political science from Duke University, where he served as a sports columnist for The Chronicle. Born in Connecticut and raised in Potomac, Maryland, he currently resides in Los Angeles, California with his family.
