Jose Quintana is the starting pitcher for the New York Mets. Originally from Arjona, Colombia, Quintana signed with the New York Yankees in 2008, playing in the Dominican League for two years. In 2012, he made his major league debut with the Chicago White Sox in game one of a double header. Quintana signed a five-year extension with the White Sox in a deal guaranteeing him $26.5 million. During the 2014 season, he impressively led all the league’s pitchers in curveball percentage.
The determination and grit Quintana brings to the game earned him a place at the 2016 MLB All-Star Game, as well as being named the White Sox’s Opening Day pitcher for the following season. He was traded to the Chicago Cubs in 2017 where he made an impressive debut, striking out twelve in a 8-0 win. After sustaining multiple injuries that affected his performance on the mound, Quintana was traded to numerous teams, settling with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2022 where he finished with a career-best ERA and started Game 1 of the Wild Card Series. Now with the New York Mets, Quintana is dedicated to constantly improving as a pitcher, serving as a great example of finding success by preserving in the face of adversity.
Off the field, Quintana enjoys spending time with his wife, Michel, and their two daughters.
