In July 2022, Jessica Campbell etched her name in the history books as the first women’s lead coach to be hired by an NHL organization. Further, in the fall of 2023 she became the first female to coach in an NHL game. She currently manages the offense, power play, and skills roles with the Seattle Kraken’s AHL affiliate — The Coachella Valley Firebirds. In 2019, as a Cornell University graduate and Team Canada National Team Player, Jessica founded her company, JC Powerskating. The success of her business enabled Jessica to see that her skillset as a coach and as a leader could earn her a seat at the table.
Under the tutelage and support from the Kraken, Jessica aims to be the head coach of an NHL franchise in the coming years. Jess stands alone in her identity on the coaching bench — a female in an entirely male world — a role she wholeheartedly embraces not just for the progress of women in the sports world, but for all women and young girls.
