Tad Boyle is in his 15th year as the head coach of the University of Colorado men’s basketball program, entering the 2024-25 campaign with a record of 298-183 (.620). He is Colorado’s all-time leader in men’s basketball coaching wins and is second in win percentage.

Entering his 19th overall season as a collegiate head coach, Boyle has won 59 percent of his games with a record of 354-249.

Boyle owns 10 of Colorado’s 14 all-time seasons of 20-plus wins and all six of the Buffaloes’ top single-season win totals including a program record 26 in 2023-24. He has guided Colorado to 12 postseason appearances in 13 possible seasons, with no postseason in 2020 due to COVID.

Six times, Boyle has led the Buffaloes to the NCAA Tournament, and a seventh was surely in the mix had it not been for the cancelation of the 2020 postseason. In 2024, Colorado advanced past Boise State (First Four) and Florida (First Round), winning multiple games in an NCAA Tournament for just the second time (1955) in program history.

Boyle owns more than half of Colorado’s all-time conference tournament wins, with a 21-13 mark in that span (19-11 in the Pac-12, 2-1 in the Big 12). He has led the Buffaloes to three conference tournament championship games and seven semifinals, highlighted by a memorable run of four wins in four days to claim the 2012 Pac-12 Tournament championship.

Twelve former Buffaloes coached by Boyle have made NBA rosters during his time in Boulder. Ten have been selected in the NBA Draft, including a historic 2024 season that saw three Buffaloes selected in the first two rounds, and two in the first round, for the first time in program history.

Colorado has had at least one player taken in eight of the last 14 NBA Drafts — including five first rounders — in Boyle’s tenure. The three picks in 2024 were also tied with Kentucky for the second-most from any school. Connecticut led all schools with four.

Twenty-seven former Buffaloes that played in Boyle’s program have gone on to professional careers overseas.

The 18th head coach in school history, Boyle has also represented the Buffaloes on a national and world stage. Boyle served as head coach of the 2023 USA Basketball Men’s U19 World Cup Team and the 2022 FIBA U18 Americas Men’s Championship team, winning the gold medal in the latter.

Boyle is in his 31st season coaching at the NCAA Division I level. Prior to his arrival at Colorado, he was the head coach at Northern Colorado for four seasons (2006-10). His coaching experience includes Wichita State (assistant coach, 2000-06), Jacksonville State (assistant coach, 1998-2000), Tennessee (director of operations, 1997-98), and Oregon (assistant coach, 1994-97).
